NAMIWalks Southwest Florida

NAMIWalks is going to be a little different this year. We’re not canceling it – we wouldn’t think of it when our collective mental health needs are at their greatest. NAMI’s programs and advocacy are needed more than ever, and with your help, we are pleased to present a walk for our times, NAMIWalks Your Way Southwest Florida: A Virtual Event on October 10.

Who Walks with NAMI?

NAMIWalks events attract and engage a diverse audience across a variety of demographics including individuals and families affected by mental health conditions, friends, community groups, local businesses, medical professionals, and more. There is no registration fee, however, all participants are encouraged to collect donations to support NAMI’s no-cost programs and services in their community. All walkers raising $100 or more receive a commemorative NAMIWalks t-shirt.

What is NAMIWalks Your Way?

On October 10, NAMIWalks will be a virtual experience and joined by NAMIWalks across the country. NAMIWalks Your Way means what it sounds like: participants get to make NAMIWalks their own. You can walk a 5K—through your neighborhood, around your backyard, on your treadmill. Or you can do something else meaningful and fun to celebrate our virtual walk day.

How to participate in a virtual walk and where to begin?
  1. Register – If you previously registered for our 2020 walk, you are already registered for NAMIWalks Your Way – Southwest Florida on October 10. If you have not registered, click here.
  2. Self-Donate – In times of uncertainty and flux, mental health services are needed more than ever. The best way to show your support is to make a self-donation on your fundraising page.  People who self-donate raise 8x more than those who don’t!
  3. Decide What to Do –  Here are some ideas:
Walking 3,500 steps for a 5K their way
Planning a craft day with their kids
Holding a virtual bake-off with their team
Practicing self-care with a favorite hobby: yoga, gardening, knitting
Doing a 5K on the treadmill or stationary bike
Hosting a virtual paint and sip party
We encourage participants to take photos and videos and share their activities on social media—use the hashtags #NAMILeeCounty, #NAMIWalks_SWFL, #NotAlone, and #MentalHealthForAll—as a way to stay connected.  Together in the difficult times — and because of them — we can and will prevail.  If you have questions or ideas, reach out to us at info@namilee.org.
